Airloy® H116 Hydrophobic Non-Flammable Strong Aerogel Tiles

$120

Airloy® H116 materials offer all of the benefits of our other Airloy products, but have been formulated to be hydrophobic and can withstand liquid water exposure. X110 series materials from Aerogel Technologies are the world’s first commercially-available polyimide aerogels. Airloy X110 materials are mechanically robust high-temperature aerogels with the strength to stand up to real-world applications. Airloy H116 comes in densities up to 10 times lighter than plastics and is a great alternative to Airloy X103 where higher temperatures are required, and/or where water may be present. Non-flammable.  Does not burn, smoke, or drip upon exposure to flame.  Great for aviation and automotive applications. Dust-free. Machinable and adherable. Thermally superinsulating with a conductivity between classic silica aerogels and Styrofoam®. Maximum operating temperature is ~300°C. Color is yellow. Dimensions are approximately 2.5″ x 3″ x 0.4″ (5 cm x 7.5 cm x 1 cm).  Airloy H116 will undergo a one-time volume reduction upon exposure to temperatures above about 100°C.  Part annealing is suggested.  Made in part with NASA technology, licensed to Aerogel Technologies.

Large Airloy X116 panels are available for making bigger engineering parts (Large Airloy H116 panels coming soon!).

Airloys are sold by density. Properties such as strength and stiffness increase with increasing density, while thermal conductivity decreases with decreasing density. Airloy X116 properties scale with density approximately as follows:

Density Class Density Compressive Strengtha Compressive Modulusa Operating Temperature a Thermal Conductivitya
L/M 0.14 ± 0.02 g/cc 1 MPa 39 MPa 300°C 24 mW/m-K
