Airloy® X116 Non-Flammable Strong Aerogel Tiles
$90
Airloy® X110 series materials from Aerogel Technologies are the world's first commercially-available polyimide aerogels. Airloy X110 materials are mechanically robust high-temperature aerogels with the strength to stand up to real-world applications. Airloy X116 comes in densities up to 15 times lighter than plastics and is a great alternative to Airloy X103 where higher temperatures are required. Non-flammable. Does not burn, smoke, or drip upon exposure to flame. Great for aviation and automotive applications. Dust-free. Machinable and adherable. Thermally superinsulating with a conductivity between classic silica aerogels and Styrofoam®. Maximum operating temperature is ~300°C. Color is yellow. Dimensions are approximately 2.5″ x 3″ x 0.4″ (5 cm x 7.5 cm x 1 cm). Airloy X116 will undergo a one-time volume reduction upon exposure to temperatures above about 100°C. Part annealing is suggested. Made in part with NASA technology, licensed to Aerogel Technologies.

This item is currently out of stock. 6-8 wk lead time minimum. Please see related products below for possible alternatives.
Large Airloy X116 panels are also available for making bigger engineering parts.
Airloys are sold by density. Properties such as strength and stiffness increase with increasing density, while thermal conductivity decreases with decreasing density. Airloy X116 properties scale with density approximately as follows:
Density Class | Density | Compressive Strengtha | Compressive Modulusa | Operating Temperature a | Thermal Conductivitya |
L | 0.09 ± 0.02 g/cc | 0.4 MPa | 11 MPa | 400°C | 29 mW/m-K |
aApproximate values. For reference only.
Densities currently available for online purchase are shown in the section above. Additional densities and sizes coming soon and available by request.
Quantity discounts available:
